What is a whistleblowing channel?

It is the set of tools and procedures through which an organisation receives, follows up and handles reports. The platform is one part of that system: it provides the public interface and organises the team's work, but does not replace policies, responsible people or decision criteria.

A form is not the same as a channel

A form collects information. An operational channel also needs follow-up, communication, access control, deadlines, history and documentation.

How it should work in practice

  1. The organisation publishes access to the channel and explains who may use it.
  2. The person describes the situation and, where available, chooses whether to report anonymously or identify themselves.
  3. The system provides a tracking code.
  4. The authorised team receives, classifies and assigns the case.
  5. Messages, actions, deadlines and decisions remain associated with the case.
  6. The organisation prepares the required reports and records.

What to configure before launch

Define responsible people, covered matters, categories, departments, priority levels, internal deadlines, access rules, messages to reporting people, public documentation, retention and closure criteria.

What to assess in a platform

  • The submission and follow-up experience for the reporting person.
  • Separation between the public portal and the restricted area.
  • Configuration of categories, fields, owners and deadlines.
  • Messages, tasks, attachments, reminders and history.
  • Statistics, case dossiers and reports.
  • Security, privacy, hosting, support and exit conditions.
